GEF - Global Environment Facility
The Global Environment Facility (GEF), established in 1991, helps developing countries fund projects and programs that protect the global environment. GEF grants support projects related to biodiversity, climate change, international waters, land degradation, the ozone layer, and persistent organic pollutants. GEF projects are managed by GEF Implementing Agencies: the United Nations Environment Programme, the United Nations Development Programme, the World Bank.

SABONET is a GEF Project aimed at developing botany in southern Africa. The network connected and developed southern African herbaria, botanic gardens, botanists and other plant specialists through workshops, courses, and funding.
