GEF - Global Environment Facility
The Global Environment Facility (GEF), established in 1991, helps developing countries fund projects and programs that protect the global environment. GEF grants support projects related to biodiversity, climate change, international waters, land degradation, the ozone layer, and persistent organic pollutants. GEF projects are managed by GEF Implementing Agencies: the United Nations Environment Programme, the United Nations Development Programme, the World Bank.

BCLME - Benguela Current Large Marine Ecosystem programme
The BCLME programme is a joint initiative by the governments of Angola, Namibia and South Africa to manage and utilize the resources of the Benguela Current Large Marine Ecosystem in a sustainable and integrated manner.

BENEFIT - Benguela Fisheries Interaction Training Programme
BENEFIT is a regional marine science and training programme involving three member states of the Southern African Development Community (SADC): Angola, Namibia and South Africa. Its overall goal is to promote optimal and sustainable utilisation of the Benguela ecosystem’s living resources. Through different activities, BENEFIT will provide more effective management of the Benguela’s living marine resources, promote job creation and contribute towards food security for the region.

DLIST - Distance Learning and Information Sharing Tool
More than a website, it is a place where anyone interested in coastal development can meet, talk, exchange information, and learn about how to use and manage our natural resources in a sustainable manner. The DLIST-Benguela community focusses specifically on issues relevant to the coastal area from Cape Point to Northern Angola - the Benguela Current Large Marine Ecosystem.

SPAN - Support Protected Area Network Project
SPAN is a project of the MET aiming to improve park management in Namibia. The project would strengthen Namibia's National System of Protected Areas as a cornerstone of the nation's efforts to protect flora and fauna in situ.

SKEP - Succulent Karoo Ecosystem Programme
The SKEP aims to effectively conserve the biodiversity in the Succulent Karoo ecosystem in Namibia and manage the state and civil society through an integrated programme of conservation action and co-management of conservation areas for the sustainable development of the region and for the improvement of people livelihoods.

NNF - The Namibia Nature Foundation
The NNF is a non-governmental organisation, not-for-profit, established under a Deed of Trust as a charitable and funding institution of a public character, with an independent Board of Trustees. The primary aims of the NNF are to promote sustainable development, the conservation of biological diversity and natural ecosystems, and the wise and ethical use of natural resources for the benefit of all Namibians, both present and future.

Gobabeb Training and Research Centre
Gobabeb Training and Research Centre is a Southern African Development Community (SADC) Centre of Excellence focusing on promoting understanding of the interactions between arid zone ecology and human activities. Since 1962, the Centre has been one of Southern Africa's foremost centres of arid lands research. Its new focuses on appropriate technology and training mean that the Centre remains highly relevant to sustainable development in Namibia and Southern Africa as a whole.

NaDEET - Namib Desert Environmental Education Trust
NaDEET is a non-profit, Namibian trust established in 2003. It is located 100 km south of Sesriem/Soussusvlei on the NamibRand Nature Reserve. NaDEET believes environmental education must not only increase awareness and knowledge but also eco-friendly attitudes and skills in Namibia's youth and educators to promote participation. The main objective of NaDEET is to provide environmental education for Namibian children and educators.

NASCO - Namibian Association of Community Based Natural Resource Management (CBNRM) Support Organizations
NACSO is an association of 12 CBNRM service organizations (11 NGOs, and the University of Namibia). The purpose of NACSO is to provide quality services to communal area communities who seek to manage and utilize their natural resources in an equitable and sustainable manner. The under-pinning philosophy of forming NACSO is to harness the wide range of skills available in the government, NGO, and University sector into a synergetic nation-wide supportive CBNRM movement.

SABONET - Southern African Botanical Diversity Network
SABONET is a GEF Project aimed at developing botany in southern Africa. The network connected and developed southern African herbaria, botanic gardens, botanists and other plant specialists through workshops, courses, and funding. SABONET started in 1996 and came to a close at the beginning of 2005. This website is an archive of the project's achievements. In particular, you can download the Red Data Book of Namibian Plants.
